(2008-05-01) Athletes for Africa is growing and is searching for a Communications & Development Officer.
Athletes for Africa is an innovative, growing NGO that is looking for an energetic and articulate individual with exceptional writing skills who aims to develop their media, communications and fundraising abilities on the job, while being given an opportunity to carve out their own future as Athletes for Africa develops internationally in 2008, and beyond.
(2008-04-16) Every victory during this 2008 playoff run for the Phoenix Suns will move them one step closer to their first-ever NBA title. Each win will also trigger a $1,500 donation by Steve Nash and his Suns teammates in support of Athletes for Africa, a charitable organization of which Nash is the advisory board chair. “What I love most about Athletes for Africa is that we’re doing more than just supporting vital programs for youth in Africa,” explained Nash, the two-time NBA most valuable player. “We’re providing opportunities for our kids to get educated and get involved. Real change is only going to happen when we’re all better global citizens.”
Nash, along with Raja Bell, Boris Diaw and Leandro Barbosa have jumped on board to support Athletes for Africa’s programs in Congo, Sudan and Uganda; and to lead the Toronto-based group’s brand new ‘Be an Athlete for Africa’ campaign.

(2008-04-14) Who in their right mind decides to run across Africa?
Meet Erin van Wiltenburg and Reuben Jentink.
Starting on April 4, 2008, Erin and Reuben will set out from the Atlantic coast on Walvis Bay, Namibia to begin a 4,200 km run across Africa. 100 days later, after averaging a marathon a day, they will reach their destination of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania on the eastern coast of Africa. The run will show the world that while Africa is a place of often unimaginable poverty and suffering, it is still very much a place with real people living real lives.
In partnership with Athletes for Africa, all proceeds raised will aid educational programs in Namibia, Zambia, and Tanzania - - the three countries SEE-THEM-RUN will go through.
